“All I did was come up with what I thought was a fun idea that was the result of a little box that was attached to a television set...”

The Story

The Story, pt. 1 Kraven Manor started off as a pitch in a Game Design class at the Guildhall at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. The game was inspired by Alfred Hitchcock, the board game Betrayal at House on the Hill, Resident Evil, the movie Cube, and Chicago serial killer H. H. Holmes as a macabre inspiration for our antagonist. The game went through several stages of iteration, from multiple antagonists, to randomized experiences with new manor layouts each playthrough, to players designing the
The Story, pt. 2 layout of manor themselves. The game began to receive attention due to the team releasing a free alpha version of the game for testing purposes in June 2013. After a few weeks in the open, the indie horror community began to churn out thousands of Let's Play videos on Youtube. The most watched Youtube channel of 2013, Pewdiepie gave our alpha build of the game the title of "Best Free Horror Game".
The Story, pt. 3 At this point, the team decided that they could add more content to the game and self-publish. In late February, the team posted Kraven Manor to Steam Greenlight. In just over one month, the game received enough votes to be greenlit for distribution by Valve.
The Story, pt. 4 On March 20, the team represented the Guildhall at SMU for Intel's University Games Showcase at Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. Although Kraven Manor competed against 12 hardened indie games, Kraven Manor took home both awards presented by Intel that day--Best Gameplay and Best Visual Quality.
The Story, pt. 5 The game launched on September 26, 2014 on Steam and Humble Store.
